London 2012 logo

June 17, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well, I’m not the citizen of London or England, but I have read some news about the current chosen logo for the London 2012 Olympic. It’s been a very nice reading them all, and see how the money can get such a huge attention from public, and maybe some people and (maybe) design firms who have lost in the race to get the Olympic logo project :)

Honestly, at the first time i saw the logo, I also a bit shock and very surprise of the London 2012 Olympic logo. It’s very unusual and very breakthrough, if we compare with the other Olympic logos that ever published and used before.

The reaction of the public was also as surprised me as the logo itself. I know why they will react like that. I understand for some people with no design background and clear mind, the logo would look awfull and a wasted of money. But, if you look closely, very deep and study the logo, you will found out that this logo has “something”.

Well, before you judge me as the defender of the London Olympic Committee, I want to make it clear that I have nothing to do with them and don’t have any relations to the Olympic, but as a graphic designer, I think I want to share my thoughts here.

The spirit and theme for the logo is for young people who are dynamic and active. The logo itself is very dynamic and active IMHO. The company who create it was also a worldwide known brand design firm, and I believe they have a solid background idea for the logo. That is something that most people don’t understand, and maybe it’s good if the London Olympic Committee willing to post and share about the phylosophy behind the logo.

At last, I believe, as the time goes by and most people get used to look at the logo, they will accept it and be proud that their logo was a very unique one and something new, and breaking the old-school style of the Olympic logo.

Meanwhile, have a visit to their official website, take your time to create your own Olympic badges, set a challenge for yourself to make a goal in the year of 2012, which I already did ;)
